On behalf of St. Francis Healthcare System of Hawaii, I would like to welcome you to our website. We hope that you will spend some time learning about us and the role we have played in Hawaii’s health care community since 1883.
Today, we continue the legacy begun by Blessed Marianne Cope who traveled to the islands in response to King David Kalakaua’s plea for help for the Hansen’s disease patients in Hawaii. We continue to look for ways to anticipate and meet the health care needs of Hawaii’s people. Our motto is simple: Wherever the needs are the greatest, that’s where you’ll find the Sisters.
We previously operated two hospitals, but today we concentrate on community-based care that help reduce the need for hospital care or provide alternatives to prolonged hospital care. This includes programs such as helping people remain independent at home, health care to help patients recover after surgeries in the comfort of their own homes, home and inpatient hospice care, and many others.
We are a Catholic healthcare system with a strong commitment to helping people receive the care they need, when they need it, and to create healthy communities in the Spirit of Christ’s Healing Ministry.
As the needs of the community change, we’re changing, too. Our newest services include “Stay Healthy at Home,” a one-stop resource and referral program that older adults and their caregivers may access for a full range of supportive services, and St. Francis Palliative Care, which provides pain and symptom management and other specialized care for those who are chronically ill.
Please take a few moments to review our various programs and visit our website again. We hope you will join us in supporting the needs of Hawaii’s people.
Yours in St. Francis,
Sister Agnelle Ching, OSF
